I tried this one previous time it was on GAOTD. It really slows down the machine. And it also has some particular (not really mentioned) requirements to a video card, so it didn't work at all on one of my machines - and gave no warning whatsoever, it took me some time to dig this up.
If you do want a cool desktop, try 3DNA (http://www.3dna.net/).

My icons are screwed up. After i started the program. When i exited it from the system tray it was fine.

I am running one of the fastest computers on the market and this program's animated wallpapers just lagged, everything lagged, when I was clicking and moving my mouse it was lagging.
Mind you, my computer wasn't lagging, it was ONLY the 3d desktop program itself that was lagging and delaying and pausing up for brief seconds. This program is crap quality and not worth paying a dime for.

Installed without problems on XP SP3.
Pros:
- looks OK
- memory usage around 20MB
Cons:
- constant 10 - 15% of processor usage isn't so low
- just a bare and few options to play around with
- doesn't work well on dual monitor
My subjective opinion is that I really don't see a point to have such software installed on my pc. Why?
Well, when I'm working on a pc, I usually have windows opened and maximized so I can't see desktop nor icons - from that point of view I would only have some needless processes consuming my memory and processor resources. If this would be whole shell replacement, then this may be a different story.
It maybe looks nice and "cool", but I usually don't sit in front of my pc and watch plain desktop. If I wanted to do that, I'd probably install some fancy screensaver...

take my advice if you want great looking icons why not create your own like i do, I use a program called IcoFX. I have created a different icon for all my folders. film folders , program folders etc, you can create icon from almost any picture from 16x16 up to 256x256. they look great as icons on the old boring folders. IcoFX is free software get it from, http://IcoFX.ro give it a go you won`t be disapointed. hope this helps.
