You can draw your own conclusions from a developer who uses the following tactics:
I visited the developers website and downloaded and ran the free scan - it came up with 195 apparent errors which it (obviously) would not fix without purchase.
I then downloaded the same program from todays giveaway and ran the same scan : this time only 133 errors.
So we apparently have a 50% increase in errors just as a bit of leverage to persuade you to buy.
These are not new tactics by any means but does give some indication of the mindset of the developer.
Unimpressed and uninstalled without further ado.

WARNING!!!
FYI
Do not attempt to run the backup feature if you are testing this is a sandbox environment... A endless loop will happen I terminated the software and was at a 2 gig file ...
As for testing to see what you can clean make sure to add to the exclude section the folders HKEY_USERS\Sandbox_*
As for the test I ran it found over 445 errors on my system... I doublechecked the list and found nothing in there that wasn't safe to delete. But like any software related to registry cleaning make sure to doublecheck/triplecheck what it wants to remove... but what's nice by default it backs up all the deleted entries...

The website of scanmyreg states that it has the CNet editor's choice award and 5 stars on download.com - I've checked download.com and I couldn't validate the claimed awards.

ScanMyReg is unsafe to use and may cause problems. Let me explain why.
You never need to clean the registry. That's right never - no matter how much you use your computer or how many programs you install. In fact cleaning the registry is usually a waste of time - your computer will not run any faster, or better, or crash less no matter how many hundreds or thousands of registry errors are fixed. To make matters much worse, 99% of registry cleaners - including ScanMyReg - will often delete needed registry keys. Doing so will often cause problems.
On the other hand, in very rare cases cleaning the registry can make a computer run faster or fix problems. However the point to remember is that this is indeed very rare. This is coming from someone who has used registry cleaners thousands of times, and only seen any benefit in a handful of cases. However I have seen problems arising from cleaning the registry and even Windows not booting any more much more than I have ever seen any benefit. Also many Windows experts say that due to the way registry is accessed, cleaning it will never make a computer run any faster.
They key thing to know is that having so called registry errors almost always does not matter! Even if you have hundreds of errors, it is quite safe to do nothing about them.
A couple more things to bear in mind before cleaning the registry:
Even if your computer seems to working fine after the cleaning the registry, this does not mean that some needed registry keys have been deleted. Problems may show up down the track when you find a program doesn't work any more, or some functions in Windows aren't working as they should. The only way to tell if a registry cleaner is safe to use is to manually check the found errors to see if there is anything there which shouldn't be - something most Windows users won't have the knowledge to do.
If after all this you insist on cleaning the registry, Auslogics Registry Cleaner is worth looking at as it is free, and is SAFE to use with the default settings (unlike pretty much all other free registry cleaners including CCleaner).
