Whoa, hold the praise, folks. This software does NOT allow you to make changes within MP3s without re-encoding them. Bummer. This means that every time you make a change of some kind, the MP3 is switched to WAV while editing then re-encoded back to MP3. It ruins their fidelity. Sorry, but this is a very serious issue that causes me to issue a thumbs down.

This is an outstanding tool I installed this back in February when it was offered.
Chuck King's criticism is correct that it re-encodes Mp3s, which can affect quality, rather than editing them natively.
I happen to do most of my editing on WAV files, so this most often doesn't affect me. But when I have done MP3 editing, I haven't found it to have enough consequences to affect most peoples' ears.
This tool provides a great deal of useful tools wrapped up in a nice interface.
Someone asked how it compares to Audacity. I use both. Sound Editor Deluxe provides better tools for changing parameters to the audio itself. But it doesn't do much of what Audacity does, or doesn't do it as well, such as multi-channel or multi-track recording.
The only software that I've used that is in some ways better than this is "Wavepad Sound Editor" from NCH Software. It is exceptional software, though something always feels a little shady about their company.

#10 - "audacity, which was given away quite a long time ago"
Audacity has always been open source and it wasn't given away here. As far as "quite a few more features" than Audacity, do tell, because such isn't apparent to me. In fact, I don't see any editing task that I can't do just as easily and quickly with Audacity.
